Answering the Call to Love and Service

Ministry has called to me several times in my life. I didn't know how to respond to the call as a young adult. My last church affiliation had been Presbyterian, but I no longer believed in the divinity of Jesus. That's a huge roadblock if you're going to answer the call as a Protestant minister.... Had I only known about
Unitarian Universalism at that time in my life!
I found Unitarian Universalism in the late 1990s. Like so many who migrate away from other faith traditions, I knew I had found my true spiritual home at last. Therefore, I was a UU when I received yet another call to ministerial love and service, this time in 2010. I had no doubt that it was time to finally answer this call. With the support of my home congregation's minister, I entered into seminary at Meadville Lombard Theological School in the Fall of 2010 and graduated three years later, in May 2013. I appeared before our denomination's ministerial credentialing panel this past Fall and was cleared for search and welcomed into preliminary fellowship. I was ordained on January 12, 2014, by my home congregation, the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Houston, Texas.
I am called to parish ministry and am thrilled to be in search. I look forward to finding a congregation for whom I will be the right, best choice for them, and they will be the right, best choice for me. Together, may we grow in service and in love.
